was born and raised in Denver Colorado. Her passions are creating great dancers, having engaging conversations over coffee and building authentic, honest relationships. Krista has been dancing for over 14 years and has coached many high school aged girls. Krista is unique in that she has been working with young girls for the past 10 years in varying capacities. She has been a middle school and high school science teacher, dance coach and mentor. Her personal story is a powerful one of rising from insecurity to leadership. The greatest blessing in her life has been building deep relationships and encountering such wonderful people along the way. She has crossed paths with countless young girls from different backgrounds and cultures and has been part of so many stories. Taking part in these stories has opened her eyes to the great need for the young girls of today. In the Spring of 2014, Krista was diagnosed with an aggressive case of Chron’s Disease which challenged her to ask the great question of “what is my purpose?” and forced her to consider how she would use her time and talents to make and impact on this generation of young girls.
As a result, Krista launched Girl Above. This organization is in response to the story of Krista Van Allen and so many other young girls. Girl Above is a non-profit created to inspire young women to live counter culturally, authentically and passionately as a result of a solidified identity. Krista has a deep passion for these young ladies and has created this organization as a means to address the current culture and what she has observed about its effects on the growing number of young girls that struggle with depression, insecurity, anxiety, loneliness, mediocrity, bullying, and misplaced identity. Ultimately, Krista’s prayer is that Girl Above will come along side these young ladies and equip them to properly face their life’s journey with a stance of grace, character and confidence
